Pomplamoose
Known for their VideoSong style youtube videos, Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn started making music together in the summer of '08, and decided to form a band. Pomplamoose thus represents the collaborative efforts of the two afore-mentioned musicians. It also means grapefruit in French. Pomplamoose has attracted fans around the world and millions of hits on youtube for their covers of Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and Lady Gaga's "Telephone," They have also been featured on NPR a 2011 Toyota commercial and were commissioned by Hyundai to make three holiday commercials. The only way fans could purchase those mp3s was through the Richmond Book Drive, which eventually raised over 11 thousand books.
Pomplamoose also one of the first bands to be part of youtube's "Musicians Wanted" Campaign. On New Year's Eve of 2010, they opened for the Dresden Dolls. Pomplamoose's original tunes are quirky and fun and their video conversation banter is adorable.
The VideoSong Medium strips down the glitter and glamour of the Mtv style video and shows the viewer what really happens in the studio. VideoSong has two rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
Pomplamoose encourages budding musicians and artists to do it yourself. With the internet and youtube, record labels are no longer a necessity.
