After a troublesome high school experience filled with domestic issues, drug use and heartbreak, Karl Remus emerged from this chaotic epoch on the pursuit of happiness and self-discovery. It was around this same time that he began writing songs and making use of his crooning baritone voice. He began playing acoustic sets around the Twin Cities, which were well received by local audiences. In 2010 he was accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he attended the fall semester, but promptly returned to the Twin Cities the following winter.  His brief stay in Boston was enough time to hone his all around musicianship and clarify where he wanted to take his music.

Upon his return to Minnesota, he began piecing together his first EP “Under These Stars”. In the spring on 2011 he teamed up with sound engineer and childhood friend, Brian Rohde, and they quickly began recording in a makeshift studio built in a garage. Karl called upon two of his Berklee colleagues, Warren Fenzi and Adam Brown, to play drums and keyboards, respectively, on his record. While tracking the majority of the EP over a three-day span, they discovered a harmonious chemistry between them that exceeded the original intention of the project. Since then they have been staying in close contact and plotting their next moves as a group.

Often described as a combination of Ray LaMontagne and John Mayer, Karl Remus’ sound hits listeners with the rawness of an Otis Redding tune but in a modern and unique fashion. Provoking the crowd’s emotions with poignant ballads and euphoric love songs, he plays with intense passion and the intention of uniting the world through the healing vibrations of music.  With equivalent chops on the electric and acoustic guitar, his versatility covers enough ground to restrain critics from simply coining him in one genre. Karl Remus’ debut EP “Under These Stars” revives the soul in pop music. Padded with authentic acoustic instrumentation and insightful lyrics, it channels the aesthetics of old folk and blues albums.
