"Maddy *Maddy's stage prefix "Mana" comes from East Timor, a newly sovereign nation in the Indonesian archipelago where Maddy took a 2-month journey in 2004. Her Timorese brothers and sisters would call her Mana Maddy, which means "sister Maddy" in the country's principal native language Tetum. The name stuck.Mana* Maddy Streicek was born and raised in Quesnel, British Columbia on a healthy diet of Maria Callas, Joni Mitchell and goat's milk. After completing high school in Canada she relocated to Sydney, Australia where she lived for 6 years and began a degree in Architecture. She enrolled in a 1 year exchange program to UC Berkeley in 2006, and has been living in Oakland ever since her official graduation in 2008. Maddy toured the country with progressive rock / Afro-Colombian fusion band Antioquia for over 4 years as their lead vocalist and keyboardist until March 2011, when she joined the folk/blues band Whiskerman as backup vocalist and keyboardist. Since leaving Whiskerman in August 2011 she has been wholeheartedly pursuing a path as a solo singer/songwriter. She croons pretty songs in the folk, jazz and progressive pop realms, on her ukelele and piano... songs about owls, rivers, the spirit, and love.

Maddy's primary vocal influence has been her mother, Patricia Hodgins (Schreiber) who was classically-trained as a vocalist in England and has performed throughout Canada in folk, cabaret, musical theatre and opera productions. Singing songs was a central part of Maddy's upbringing and Maddy credits long car trips and singing with her mother and two younger sisters with her ability to harmonize with ease.
In February 2011 after a successful Kickstarter fundraising campaign she began recording an EP of her songs on piano, backed by Ezra Lipp (Sean Hayes) on drums, Joe Lewis (Foxtails Brigade, Honeycomb) on upright bass, Mateo Lugo (Moontit, 7OrangeABC) on guitar, Graham & Lewis Patzner (Whiskerman) on violin and cello, Charith Premawhardana (Classical Revolution) on viola, and guest vocalists Annie Bacon (Folk Opera) and Graham Patzner. The record is in its finishing touches stage in a basement studio near you, and Maddy hopes to release the album in Winter 2011.
