You're now reading about Asker.
The lines haven't always been clearly drawn in music and Asker takes no precautions to avoid crossing any, or acting if there is anything strange about the unlikely combinations that brought the band together. A band made up of suburban-bred, college students that draws songwriting influence from Brit-rock, indie-rock, post-rock, and other sorts of something-rocks, Asker (while quietly tackling heavy course loads and the responsibilities of being alive in the modern age) has slowly but surely discovered a unique and artful take on song-making.
After playing their first show in April of 2011, the band recorded their first demo/EP "United EP", throughout the summer at guitarist Jack Vondrachek's studio. Five-tracks deep, "United EP", was the common listener's first taste of a sound that had been burrowing in vocalist/songwriter Alexander Rollins' heart and mind for some time. Happenstance seemed to bring the members of the band together, drummer Alex Sullivan and Rollins met through a stroke of luck, Rollins then met Vondrachek in theology class when the topic of bands came up. An unlikely combination of coincidences brought about debut record from a band creating a sound that both respects its influences and dares to create something entirely new.
With "United EP" in their saddles, a hard-working attitude towards gigging and promotion, and an increasingly powerful live-show, Asker has gigged across the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, been featured on a live-radio segment in Duluth, MN, been featured on blogs, playlists, and radio, and let the transcending power of their sometimes melancholic, sometimes euphoric sound touch listeners and onlookers alike.
Bred to work hard, the cold Minnesota winter hasn't stopped Asker from returning to the studio and beginning work on a second EP. The band has said they wish to, "Make a passionate record, but with intentions." 2012 will only tell what they can do with their sonic abilities.
So if happenstance has led you to Asker, let the music envelop you. Grab a free download and be thankful. Stream their Christmas EP "A Yuletide Yell" and hear the band take their music (and an old favorite) into a stripped-down setting. Come to a live show and witness a band pouring their hearts, souls, and minds into each and every note. Pick up a copy of "United EP" and hold the hearts of college-students-turned-indie-rockers in your hands.
