Patchouli is the acoustic worldbeat/folk duo of julie Patchouli and Bruce Hecksel. They met while studying at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and immediately began performing, touring and recording. Julie's pure primordial vocals, while compared to such luminaries as Joni Mitchell, Sarah Maclachlan and Sade have quickly gained her notoriety in her own right. An award winning songwriter and accomplished multi-instrumentalist, julie alternates between guitar, string bass, mandolin, marimbas and various african drums. Bruce is a powerhouse flatpicker, not a high speed bluegrass-style picker, rather playing complex,
intricate, solidly-rhythmic breaks that left me with my jaw hanging, says Jim Whitney of the Twin Cities Acoustic Music Calendar. In June of '04 Patchouli released its 7th Cd Once in the Ring. Patchouli's albums have received critical acclaim nationwide and received airplay on world and folk and NPR radio programs throughout the U.S. Patchouli is consiered THE up and coming, nationally touring acoustic duo to watch.
