Atlantis Quartet

(0 reviews)
Atlantis Quartet formed in October 2006 and in less than a year is making quite a splash on the twin cities jazz scene. The group consists of four of Minnesota's most exciting emerging jazz artists who have come together to create and explore fresh and original sounds on the more modern edges of the jazz idiom. Dwight Hobbes of Pulse of the Twin Cities credits Atlantis Quartet with strong compositions and insanely serious chops while the Dakota Jazz Club refers to the band as one of the best young jazz groups in the cities.

In its relatively short existence, the quartet has performed many of the area's top jazz venues, including the Dakota, Times Bar & Cafe, Rossi's Blue Star Room, and the Nomad Jazz Series. Perhaps more exciting are the genre boundaries that Atlantis Quartet has been pushing, bringing its lively modern jazz sound into rock clubs as well, such as the Uptown Bar and Bunkers. In many ways, Atlantis Quartet considers itself more along the lines of a rock band performing original jazz. The foursome also host a regular gig at Jitters Martini Bar on the first Thursday of each month, the club where they first cut their teeth as a band.

Thursday, August 30, 2007 marks the release of Atlantis Quartet's debut album, Again, Too Soon, which will be made available that night at a CD Release Party and performance at the Dakota Jazz Club from 7-11pm. The album is a collection of eight original compositions recorded last spring at Fur Seal Studio in Minneapolis, MN. Following the release date, the group has a busy run of follow-up release parties in support of the album, performing September 6 at Jitters, September 13 at the Uptown Bar, and September 14 at the Times Bar & Cafe. The album will also be available online through itunes, CD Baby, www.myspace.com/atlantisquartet and at www.atlantisquartet.com where you can also find out more information on the group and its performance dates.
