“Walk in with nothing, walk out with something.” When Reid Kruger and Natalie Nowytski made this promise to one another at their first jam session, they also identified what would be the core of their distinctive brand of music: improvisation. The duo has been creating their unassuming—but skillful—soundscapes since 2006 with the “walk in/walk out” principal as their mantra, combining their diverse musical backgrounds with a touch of technology. Although new to the world performing indie pop, Natalie Nowytski is no stranger to the stage. A classically trained vocalist and performer since childhood, Natalie has become widely respected as a master artist of Eastern European vocal styling. Her overachieving chameleon voice has shared the stage with Peter Ostroushko, Ruth MacKenzie, Garrison Keillor, Prudence Johnson, Dean Magraw, Joe Chvala and the Flying Foot Forum, Mila Vocal Ensemble, Orkestar Bez Ime, Ethnic Dance Theatre, and many others. Her traditional folk repertoire includes more than 50 languages—including her native Ukrainian—and almost as many distinct vocal styles. Although she calls the voice her main instrument, Natalie plays nearly a dozen folk and classical instruments. Reid Kruger has been a musician all his life. He enjoys a creative lifestyle in Minneapolis, collaborating with artists from around the world in a variety of capacities: Producer/Engineer, Composer/Arranger/Multi-Instrumentalist/Sound Sculptor, Lover/Fighter/Cat Teaser/Bike Rider. Reid applauds stir fry and a good old fashioned traffic jam! Above and beyond playing with one of his favorite people on the planet, Natalie Nowytski, Reid plays drums in a band called Artifact Shore. He is preparing material for a solo release. Feel free to drop Reid an e-hello at reid@waterburymusic.com.
