Just (A Radiohead Project)
Just (A Radiohead Project) is a somewhat self-deprecating name for a band that has taken on a huge challenge: channeling Radiohead, the enormously popular English alternative rock band. Radiohead fans will attest to the fact that while some can PLAY Radiohead, not everyone can DO Radiohead, as in creating the music in the spirit with which it was written. Just (A Radiohead Project) has found a way to infuse Radiohead classics with just enough of its own sound to produce a tribute with a twist. The result is a sound that remains true to the music, but also true to the experimental nature of Radiohead, the band.
Formed in September 2008 as What’s That? (A Radiohead Project), the band has since been generating buzz at gigs in the Twin Cities area, even garnering front-page exposure and a feature in the February 2009 issue of City Pages magazine. Author Bradley Campbell wrote “These guys don’t just play Radiohead: They channel the band’s soul.”
The five-member group has a playlist of over 30 of Radiohead’s most innovative and popular music, spanning material from 1993’s first release, “Pablo Honey” to 2007’s digital download “In Rainbows”. From lead vocalist Thom Fox’s haunting “Reckoner” to guitarist Nate Wycoff’s reckless, but self assured performance in “Paranoid Android”, Just (A Radiohead Project) aims to please and engage audiences, from fiercely loyal Radiohead fans to those who have recently emerged from under a rock and are hearing the music for the first time. In short, Just (A Radiohead Project) is just great entertainment.
